I was supposed to eat lightly yesterday. After fasting all day, though, I stopped by HEB. My intent was just to pick up some yogurt and blueberries, but I also bought some smoked sausage and American “cheese.” While I’m proud of myself for resisting the peach cobbler being sold at the store now, I should have just stuck to what I went in for.
I didn’t gain any weight, but I didn’t lose any, either. I weighed in at the exact same weight this morning as I did yesterday morning. Because of the sodium content of the sausage and cheese, I’m probably retaining some water, but I had intended to lose at least a couple of pounds. I also had an apple, but actually skipped the yogurt and blueberries I’d picked up at the store, so the only healthy food I consumed was that apple (now that I think about it, I also had some raw almonds).
I have a terrible habit of going to the grocery store just randomly. I need to limit all my grocery shopping to the weekends and just stick to what’s on my shopping list. That would eliminate (hopefully) a lot of impulse buying and would allow me to better track my spending.
This morning, I made a list of all the “bad” stuff I’ve consumed over the past few weeks, and it provided some necessary recognition of my recent caloric splurges. It got me thinking, too, that I really need to track what I eat every day. That strikes me as a particularly tedious chore, but a big part of this project is to become more mindful of what I’m eating on a regular basis, so I just need to do it. So, some of my future posts will seem unnecessarily detailed because they’ll likely list exactly what I ate the day before.
Mentioning this is probably too much information (and possibly gross), but I’ve gotten in the habit of weighing myself after the inevitable morning poop that results from my two (or three) cups of coffee. The reason I mention this is it occurred to me that, when I weigh myself just before getting in the shower, that weight is actually going to go down a bit later in the morning. I should actually be weighing myself after I’ve had my coffee (and the subsequent morning poop), but I’m already dressed at that point, so I’ll stick to what I’ve been doing and just recognize that the number on the scale (before I get in the shower) isn’t the lowest I’ll weigh during the day.
On that note, I’ll end this post.
