Well, I gained five pounds yesterday. It’s still a mystery to me how it’s possible to gain that much weight in only a day. Some of that is probably water, and some of it is probably fiber that’s still making its way through my gastrointestinal tract, but nonetheless it’s frustrating to put on that kind of weight.

I shouldn’t be surprised, though. The taco salad that I made yesterday was just too big. When all the ingredients were mixed together in a bowl, I was surprised to find that the salad felt like it weighed five pounds. A lot of that was water from the lettuce and tomato, but I probably overdid it on the guacamole and sour cream, too.

What really made the difference, though, is that I consumed more ice cream than I intended to. I bought enough tiny cups of ice cream for yesterday and today, but I ate them all yesterday, probably because I didn’t have enough to do. The tortilla chips were a factor, too. I bought a bag meant to last through the weekend but ended up having chips and guacamole later in the day (I ate the salad at lunchtime). At the end of the day, the tortilla chips were gone.

I’m giving up sugar tomorrow, though. And I’ll probably need to stick with eating my vegetarian salad on the weekends rather than having something less boring. Maybe I’ll even try being a vegetarian for the next several weeks. It seems like that’s the only way I can avoid gaining weight on the weekends.

I have to finish off the rest of the food I bought to make taco salad today, so I’ll probably gain some more weight. Guacamole, while good for you (because it contains good fat), still contains carbohydrates, so too much of it pushes the 50 g carbohydrate limit that I need to stick to. Avocado does have anti-inflammatory properties, though, so I’ll try to incorporate it into my vegetarian salads. Too much sour cream is a problem, too.

I hope I don’t manage to gain back most of the weight that I lost this past week in a single weekend, but that’s been the pattern for a few weeks now. I’ll be fasting three days this week again, so I’ll lose it if that’s the case, but I need to stop this yo-yo pattern for good.
